History

In 1934, Harold Carr set up a practice in Hastings and one of his first clients was his childhood friend, James Wattie. Harold was an innovator before his time. Through an opportunity to pulp fruit with a local food manufacturer, he saw an opportunity to create a local business with James Wattie, which led to the formation of Wattie Canneries Ltd. in 1934. The company's initial efforts developed from pulped fruit to canning peaches and pears in 1935. Harold was both a director and deputy chairman of Wattie Canneries Ltd. until 1972 and remained a director until 1984. In 1937 Harold was joined in the accounting practice by Dick Stanton, an accountant from DePelichet McLeod, an old established stock and station firm.

Dick Stanton continued with the firm until 1963 when Carr & Stanton changed direction to expand. In the later years, the firm was then invited to join PKF International. The step forward has enabled Carr & Stanton to remain independent while providing access to specialist services, and knowledge, quality standards and add an international perspective. The current partners of the firm have a wealth of experience and know the local business landscape of Hawke's Bay. Michael Jackson joined the firm in 1987 and was appointed a director in 1995. He is now the managing director of PKF Carr & Stanton.
