It’s incredible to believe that we are already racing towards the end of 2017. The weather is starting to warm up and promises that summer is nearing. It’s a great reminder of why many of us choose to live in Hawke’s Bay and reap the benefits of a warm climate, longer days and an idyllic lifestyle.
Congratulations to Mary-Ellen, Patrick and their team for winning the 2017 Liquorland Franchisee of the Year award. Not only did their Onekawa Liquorland store take out first place, their Waipukurau Wines and Spirits store was also named as one of the top 20 finalists. A bold achievement when there are 112 nationwide stores eligible to compete for the award.
The Inland Revenue have recently launched a campaign to target tradespeople who are not declaring their full income for tax purposes. In order to prevent penalties and prosecution, if you're in business, you need to maintain accurate records, ensure that you are charging and declaring GST (if GST registered), register all employees and declare all of your income when filing your tax return.
It is expected that any new Government will bring with it a flurry of policy changes, but Jacinda Ardern has set out a particularly ambitious 100-day plan which will almost certainly include significant changes to New Zealand’s tax system that will affect the lives and pockets of all New Zealanders.
Congratulations to Michael Jackson who is celebrating his 30 year anniversary with PKF Carr & Stanton this month. Michael joined the business in November 1987, after completing his degree at Massey University and went on to become a director in 1999.
To create a strategic roadmap for your business, you don't need heaps of wonderful resources; you only need to give up your preconceived ideas about strategy. Sometimes the thing that holds a small business back the most is small thinking. Money or number of personnel is not what counts when you create a strategic plan – common sense is.
