Building your business together

It’s incredible to believe that we are already racing towards the end of 2017. The weather is starting to warm up and promises that summer is nearing. It’s a great reminder of why many of us choose to live in Hawke’s Bay and reap the benefits of a warm climate, longer days and an idyllic lifestyle.
Whilst we still boast more traditional quarter acre sections and better housing affordability than our counter-parts in the bigger cities, residential house prices and section prices are on the increase. In May 2017 the local council advised that over the past three years, Hastings home values have increased by 21.7% and Napier by 18.8%.
Demand in housing has also driven an increase in subdivision applications and new house starts. It’s just been announced that the Hastings District Council are supporting, in principle, a development that could see 120 new homes built in Flaxmere.
Increased activity in the building industry impacts on our infrastructures, our economy and in particular our trades industry.
Between June 2016 and June 2017, the number of apprentices increased nationally by 1007 and may be set to increase further under Labour’s education policy. Labour is promising increased financial benefits to first time tertiary students completing apprenticeships. They are also proposing to pay the equivalent of an unemployment benefit to employers who take on an apprentice aged 18-24 years who has been on the benefit for three months or more.
How are our local tradespeople and businesses coping with the current demands and are they positioning themselves well for the future? Are they welcoming these opportunities or are they already feeling the pressure? Does the thought of growth and extra resourcing seem overwhelming?
In response to the growing trade industry and client feedback, PKF Carr & Stanton have recently launched our Trades’ Services packages, designed to provide these businesses with the best financial tools to help drive their business success, whilst providing them with certainty around the fees they pay. These packages can be custom built and offer a range of services, such as: reviewing business structures, establishing and implementing business plans, software options, budgeting and forecasting, processing GST, payroll, PAYE and ACC reviews. Our purpose is to drive business success to ensure that clients are achieving their goals. Please click on the link below to read more.
